After failing to qualify for the final round of the US Open, tennis pro Maxime Cressy caused a stir with an act of frustration
American tennis pro Maxime Cressy missed out on qualifying for the US Open and caused a stir with his behavior afterwards. As he packed up his things after his defeat, the 27-year-old threw his garbage onto the court, visibly upset.
A video shows Cressy taking several objects out of his bag and throwing them towards the court after his narrow defeat to Brit Jan Choinski.
Before he made his way to the exit, he threw the garbage lying on his bench after him and got rid of an empty plastic bottle.
The reason for the action was his narrow failure in the final qualifying round of the US Open. The world number 161 lost 0:6, 7:6 (7:5), 6:7 (10:12) to Choinski in a tie-break. Cressy must have been particularly frustrated that the American had three match points in the match that he was unable to capitalize on.
US Open: Zverev gets started on Monday
One of the greatest successes of his career was winning the ATP tournament in Newport in 2022. Cressy reached the second round at the US Open in both 2020 and 2021. His best result at a Grand Slam was reaching the round of 16 at the Australian Open two years ago.
Maxime Cressy started throwing things after losing in the last round of US Open qualies.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen this before.
He had multiple match points.
