Tennis pro Hanfmann in round two in Rome

Strong start for Yannick Hanfmann in Rome. Two and a half weeks before the start of the French Open, the Karlsruhe player is in good form

Yannick Hanfmann has reached the second round of the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome without much trouble.

The 32-year-old tennis pro from Karlsruhe won his opening match against the Czech Jakub Mensik in the Italian capital with a clear 6:3, 6:2. Hanfmann only needed 87 minutes for his success at the top-ranked clay court event and took revenge for his defeat against the Czech in Madrid two weeks earlier.

Tatjana Maria fought her way into the second round of the women’s tournament. The 36-year-old defeated Czech qualifier Linda Fruhvirtova 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 6:2. Angelique Kerber had already overcome her opening hurdle without any problems on Tuesday. The former world number one easily defeated Lauren Davis from the USA 6:1, 6:0.

The tournament in Rome is the last important test before the French Open in Paris starting on May 26th
