Bogotá – Tatjana Maria has surprisingly celebrated the second tournament victory in her long tennis career.
The 34-year-old mother of two took the title at the WTA tournament in Colombia’s capital Bogotá. Maria beat Laura Pigossi of Brazil 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in a clash of two qualifiers. The clay court tournament was endowed with almost 240,000 dollars.
Maria, who comes from Bad Saulgau and lives in Florida, won her first tournament in Mallorca in June 2018. The current number 237 in the world rankings completed her second triumph in only her second singles final after 2:30 hours against Pigossi, who is ranked 167th. Six years ago, the former Fed Cup player was also successful in the doubles in Bogotá. She gave birth to her second daughter last year and returned to the tour in August.
