The former French Open winner prevails in Linz and moves closer to the top 10 of the world rankings
Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko (26) has won her second WTA title of the season at the tennis tournament in Linz. The former French Open winner beat the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova 6:2, 6:3 in the final of the top seeded players. Ostapenko had already triumphed in Adelaide/Australia at the beginning of the year, while Alexandrova had beaten Dortmund’s Jule Niemeier, among others, on her way to the final in Austria.
Ostapenko collected 123,480 euros in prize money for the eighth title of her career and is approaching the top 10 in the world rankings. Angelique Kerber (Kiel) was eliminated in the first round in Linz, Niemeier survived qualifying and her opening match in the main draw.
At the parallel tournament in Hua Hin/Thailand, 19-year-old Russian Diana Shnaider won her first tournament victory on the professional tour. Shnaider defeated the second seeded Chinese player Zhu Lin 6:3, 2:6, 6:1 in the final. Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) was eliminated in the round of 16.
