Domenico Tedesco is to succeed Jesse Marsch as head coach at RB Leipzig.the currently club-less coach is on the verge of signing with the Bundesliga club in Saxony.
The 36-year-old Tedesco led Spartak Moscow to a runner-up finish in the Champions League last season, but did not extend his expiring contract for family reasons. He previously coached FC Schalke 04 between 2017 and 2019.
RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff had already spoken of far-advanced talks on the coaching issue on Tuesday evening during the 2-1 win over Manchester City. “It can happen very quickly, we are in good talks and have the feeling that the coach we will sign is a perfect fit for the team.” However, RB management had contacted other candidates earlier in the week, such as Roger Schmidt, but he is keen to fulfil his contract at PSV Eindhoven.
Tedesco is expected to lead the team already in the English week before Christmas and ensure in the games against Mönchengladbach, in Augsburg as well as against Bielefeld that the seven-point gap to fourth place, which is entitled to Champions League qualification, is reduced.
