Lukas Tulovic gave the Tech 3 team its first victory in the 2021 MotoE season: Team boss Herve Poncharal explains why he is nevertheless relying on two new riders
Lukas Tulovic rode for the Tech-3 team in MotoE in the past two years. This year, however, team boss Herve Poncharal is sending two new riders into the race. The Frenchman would have liked to continue with Tulovic, but the German motorbike rider had other plans.
“We couldn’t continue with Lukas Tulovic because he had planned to ride for the Intact team,” Poncharal explained at. “He is already riding for the team in the Moto2 European Championship. That’s why he wanted to race MotoE and Moto2 together with Intact. Lukas informed me that this was his wish. “
“But unfortunately the Intact team preferred Dominique Aegerter. Aegerter signed the MotoE contract when he knew there was no overlap in MotoE and Supersport World Championship. When Lukas called me to say he wanted to continue with us, it was already too late,” regrets Poncharal. “I had already signed my two riders. “
On 15 August, Tulovic made history when he took victory in the MotoE round of the Austrian Grand Prix. The German finished fifth in the final standings. The Tech 3 team is relying on Hector Garzo and Alex Escrig this year. “I am very happy with my rider line-up for 2022,” notes Poncharal.
