Suspicions confirmed: Henrichs out for a long time with Achilles tendon rupture

RB Leipzig not only lost the top game at the start of the 15th Bundesliga matchday in Munich, but also Benjamin Henrichs for a long time. It was already injury time when Benjamin Henrichs went to the ground with a pained expression on his face after a quick step just before the halfway line without any contact from an opponent.

Shortly afterwards, the final whistle was blown in the game in Munich, which RB Leipzig had already lost 1:5, where RB Leipzig had no say apart from the early 1:1 equalizer in the 2nd minute. And Henrichs was unable to get up by himself, had to be treated by doctors and transported on a stretcher by paramedics. It quickly became clear that the 27-year-old’s Achilles tendon was affected.

The Saxons were still expecting the worst on Friday evening. “You could see that it was probably a serious injury,” said RB captain Willi Orban immediately, expressing his sympathy for his colleague. “It’s incredibly bitter… I think it was the last action in the game. I’m extremely sorry for the lad.”

The final diagnosis followed on Saturday. The national player is to undergo surgery in the near future. The club’s management team, led by sporting director Marcel Schäfer, is examining how and whether to react to Henrichs’ absence.

The injured player has been playing for RBL since July 2020 and has been a regular in all 15 league games (two assists) and all six Champions League games this season.
