Sandhausen, a club in the second division, had to announce some bad news on Thursday evening. 18 people in the immediate vicinity of the team have been infected with the corona virus.
The SVS announced this on their website. A total of twelve players were affected, six further positive PCR tests were carried out among the support staff. Already on Wednesday, some players had complained of cold symptoms. Even then, a few rapid tests had come back positive.
Many symptom-free courses
The results of the subsequent PCR tests were finally announced on Thursday. A total of 18 times these had turned out positive in the immediate team environment. Team doctor Dr. Nikolaus Streich is quoted as saying: “For all of us, this high number of findings came as a surprise.” After all, “the large number of symptom-free patients can be attributed to the very high vaccination status within the team and the coaching and support staff”. This is “an indication of how important it is to get vaccinated.”
All affected persons went into domestic quarantine after consultation with the responsible health office. Whether the match at FC St. Pauli on Sunday (1.30 pm) will take place has yet to be decided by the DFL. But it seems doubtful.
