Poland’s Iga Świątek is the undisputed number one in the world of tennis. Nevertheless, she has decided on a far-reaching change.
World number one Iga Świątek has surprisingly parted ways with her coach. The 23-year-old Pole announced the split on Instagram on Friday. “After three years of the greatest successes in my career, coach Tomasz Wiktorowski and I have decided to end our collaboration,” the post read.
Świątek thanked Wiktorowski for working with her. The Polish woman will now take “a few weeks” before she announces her new coach. She is currently in talks with a coach from abroad. She is “ready to take the next step.” Wiktorowski had been at Świątek’s side since 2021; from 2011 to 2018, he had coached the former top player and former world number two Agnieszka Radwańska, also from Poland.
Four-time victory at Roland Garros
The clay court specialist has triumphed four times at the French Open since 2020, and also won the US Open in 2022. Away from the French Open, however, she has recently had a hard time at Grand Slams. In Australia and at Wimbledon, she already failed in the third round, and at the US Open in September, she was already out in the quarterfinals.
Nevertheless, she recently overtook the Australian Ashleigh Barty (121 weeks as world number one in her career) and the Belgian Justine Henin (117 weeks) in the all-time world rankings. Świątek is currently ranked 7th with 123 weeks. Steffi Graf remains the undisputed number one, having spent an incredible 377 weeks in total at the top of the women’s rankings, more than seven years.
