US Open organisers announced wildcard awards to Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki for the tournament in New York.
Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will serve in New York: The 43-year-old US American and the Dane, who is ten years younger, will compete at the US Open.
As the organisers announced on Wednesday, the two former Grand Slam winners have been given wildcards for the event starting on August 28.
For Wozniacki it is her comeback at a major tournament, only in summer the former world number one had returned to the tour. At the WTA tournament in Montreal, she served for the first time after a break from competition of more than three and a half years and managed her first win.
Williams recently caused a stir in Cincinnati. For the first time in four years, the veteran seven-time Grand Slam winner beat a player in the Top 20.
