Supercopa 2023/24: Dates, broadcast & mode

The Supercup is coming up in Spain at the beginning of the year. Who will succeed Barcelona, who will be involved and where will the games be broadcast? The most important answers to the questions about the Supercopa

What exactly is the Supercopa?

The Supercopa de Espana was first played in 1982 between the Spanish champion and the cup winner. The format of the Supercup was fundamentally changed for the 2019/20 season. Since then, the winner has been decided by four teams rather than two

Which teams are qualified for the Supercopa in 2023/24?

Champions FC Barcelona and cup winners Real Madrid are seeded for the two semi-finals. Copa del Rey finalists CA Osasuna and last season’s league runners-up Atletico Madrid (behind Barça and Real) are also in the mix.

When and where will the Supercopa 2023/24 take place?

For the third time in a row, the Spanish Super Cup will be held in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh. All three matches will be played at Al Awal Park at King Saud University, the playing home of Al-Nassr.

Copa del Rey champions Real Madrid will kick off the tournament when they face city rivals Atletico in the first semi-final on Wednesday (8pm). It is the first of three city duels in less than four weeks. 24 hours later, Barcelona and Osasuna will determine the second finalist on Thursday evening.

The final will then take place on Sunday, also at 8pm

What is the format of the Supercopa 2023/24

If there is a draw in one of the three matches after regular time, there will be 30 minutes of extra time and then, if necessary, a penalty shoot-out

Who broadcasts the Supercopa matches live on TV and streaming?

In Germany, the Supercopa will be shown live on the paid TV channel “Sportdigital”. This is part of the DAZN offer. So if you have a DAZN subscription, you can also stream the games there.

Who is the defending Supercopa champion?

A year ago, the then champions Real Madrid narrowly beat Valencia on penalties in the semi-finals. In the final, however, the Whites were clearly defeated 3-1 by Barcelona, who had also only advanced against Betis in a penalty shoot-out. Barça’s main stars at the time were Gavi (one goal, two assists) and Robert Lewandowski (one goal, one assist).

Last year’s success was Barcelona’s 14th in the Supercopa. The Catalans have thus extended their lead over Real Madrid (12). For Atletico, it would be their third triumph after 1985 and 2014, while for CA Osasuna it would be their first ever participation.
