Former NHL player Konstantin Koltsov has died at the age of 42. This was announced by the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation on Tuesday. Koltsov, a friend of two-time tennis Grand Slam winner Aryna Sabalenka, died “suddenly”, the statement said. No details of the circumstances were given.
“We mourn,” it said on the federation’s website: “The Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation expresses its deepest condolences to the family, friends and all those who knew and worked with Konstantin.”
Koltsov played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL from 2002 to 2006. There was initially no reaction from the world number two Sabalenka, who is due to play at the Miami Open this week. The 25-year-old won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.
