Felix Sturm returns to the ring against Sükrü Altay. The former world champion wants to create new excitement with his fight
Former boxing world champion Felix Sturm wants to use his return fight against Sükrü Altay in Ludwigsburg to promote youth in his sport. “There will be many talented boxers in the ring in Ludwigsburg. We want to breathe new life into boxing,” the 44-year-old said at the press conference ahead of the December 2 fight.
In addition to the rematch against Altay, whom Sturm defeated lackluster on points in their first fight in February, eleven preliminary fights are scheduled to take place at the event. “With the fight, we are starting another attempt to move forward so that talents fight in front of the audience they deserve in the future,” Sturm said. He said the talents should be offered an “attractive platform”: “But they have to hand in their calling card themselves.”
The former middleweight world champion therefore attaches great importance to the event. The whole thing could become “decisive for the future, how it goes on with German boxing,” Sturm said.
