Struff loses first match after withdrawing from the Olympics

Jan-Lennard Struff did not play his second singles match at the Olympic Games in Paris. Now the tennis pro is back on court for the first time at an ATP tournament in the USA

Jan-Lennard Struff has lost his first tennis match after withdrawing from the singles competition at the Olympic Games in Paris. In round one of the Cincinnati Open, the 34-year-old Davis Cup player lost 6:4, 4:6, 3:6 to the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Struff had withdrawn from the singles competition two weeks ago after his first match at the Olympic Games in France. Fearing a longer absence due to a hip injury, the Warstein native decided not to take part in the singles again. Last year, the German number two had already had to take several months off due to problems with his hip.

Struff continued to compete in doubles in Paris together with Dominik Koepfer, as the strain is less and the distances are not as long. The two German pros were eliminated in the Olympic quarter-finals against the Australian duo Matthew Ebden/John Peers.
