In the first round against Ludwigsburg, Bayern lost their first home game. The Munich team did better now, winning against Würzburg without ever being threatened
The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich have clearly won their first play-off semi-final match against the Würzburg Baskets. The best team in the main round prevailed 91:76 (49:27) on Wednesday and never trailed once. The second game in the best-of-five series will also take place in Munich on Friday. The first team to record three wins will advance to the BBL final series.
Würzburg struggled against Munich’s defense and only hit one of its first eleven shots from the field. As a result, Bayern pulled away by double digits after just under seven minutes (15:5) and the home side repeatedly exploited its size advantage. Munich also controlled the game in the second half, in particular thanks to Carsen Edwards (15 points) and Serge Ibaka (18 points), and pulled 49:27 ahead at the break.
The visitors did not give up in the second half, played toe-to-toe with the favorites and reduced the deficit to as much as eleven points in the final spell. However, Würzburg ultimately had too little to counter Bayern’s quality and quantity. Apart from their leader Otis Livingston, who had been voted the most valuable player in the main round, they also had to do without Julius Böhmer. This short rotation made itself felt
