Stöger is not being pessimistic: “We have self-confidence”

The results are not good enough. The goals are missing. Nevertheless, the Gladbachers don’t want to paint the devil on the wall – especially newcomer Kevin Stöger.

With only five goals scored from the first four Bundesliga games, Borussia Mönchengladbach is far down in this category – as well as in the one with the points. Because apart from the 2-0 in Bochum on the 2nd matchday, there have already been three defeats to date, the third now by a 0-2 in Frankfurt. Before that, the team from the Lower Rhine region had lost narrowly to champions Leverkusen (2:3) and to runners-up Stuttgart (1:3).

And although Gladbach had even generated more possession (63 percent) and won more duels in Hesse and almost scored the 1:1 through Rocco Reitz in a good phase after the break (the post in minute 67), the defeat was deserved at the end of the day.

Stöger: “… then we will get a lot of points”

BMG coach Gerardo Seoane also saw it that way on Sky afterwards: “In the second half, we had a lot more possession and dominated the opponent. Overall, however, we lacked penetration in many situations.” In the same way, the defense had not managed to concede no goals or only one: ”We had a few good, open chances to score in which luck and accuracy were lacking. That’s extremely annoying for us, because in the end we also conceded two goals again that we could have defended better.”

With the upcoming duels against Union Berlin, Augsburg (October 4) and Heidenheim (October 19), the pressure on the Foals is growing.

Kevin Stöger, who joined the Lower Rhine club from VfL Bochum this summer, does not want to be pessimistic after the meager points scored so far. His view of the situation: the team is alive, the team wants to, the team will score. Because: “We have self-confidence. We have already played good games in the season. We only have three points, but it’s not because of a lack of self-confidence. The last consequence and conviction are perhaps missing. It’s hard to say exactly what the problem is.”

The 31-year-old Austrian continued: ”Our tally so far is definitely not what we’re aiming for. But you also have to consider who we’ve played: Leverkusen and Stuttgart, last year’s champions and runners-up. Now Frankfurt.” That’s why looking ahead is more important: ‘We have to play like we have done in the last few weeks and then we will get a lot of points.’
