At Union Berlin, Cedric Teuchert has played no role of late, and the striker is now moving back to Hannover 96.
Teuchert’s CV even includes two Champions League appearances for Schalke 04. But the reality for the attacker is different: A substitute for Union Berlin, only six substitute appearances in the current season. The 24-year-old is therefore facing another change of scenery: Teuchert is heading back to Hanover.
When the option came up to play for 96 again, it was clear to me that I definitely wanted to do it.
There Teuchert, whose contract at Union would have run until the end of the season, has signed a contract until 30 June 2024, 96 announced on Sunday. “With the signing of Cedric Teuchert, we are gaining variability and goal-scoring danger in our offensive play,” 96 sports director Marcus Mann let it be known. “When the option came up to play for 96 again, it was clear to me that I definitely wanted to do that,” Teuchert said.
“The last one and a half years in Berlin were not always easy for me in sporting terms, but I still felt very comfortable at Union,” Teuchert is quoted as saying on the Union site. “Cedric has always been an important part of the squad and played a big part in the success of our team, especially last season. Of course he wants more playing time and I am sure that he will get it in Hannover, explained Union managing director Oliver Ruhnert.
At the start of training for Union, Urs Fischer had 25 players on the pitch, while Teuchert practised individually in the dressing room. That should now change again at 96. Especially since he already knows his way around the Reds. On loan from FC Schalke 04, he made 23 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga for Hannover in 2019/20 and scored six goals.
