“Splash Brother” Thompson facing comeback after two and a half years

After an injury layoff of more than two and a half years, Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson is set to make his comeback to the NBA.

“Dub Nation, I’m back,” Thompson said in a short clip directed at fans and released by the Warriors on Saturday (local time). The Warriors also confirmed reports that the 31-year-old is expected to make his first appearance for the Warriors since the 2019 Finals on Sunday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Thompson tore his ACL in the sixth game of the Finals series against the 2019 Toronto Raptors. The Warriors lost the game and the series at the same time. After that, Thompson missed the entire 2019/20 season.

Torn Achilles tendon late 2020

Shortly before his first scheduled comeback, he tore his right Achilles tendon in November 2020, causing him to miss another full season. The five-time All-Star Thompson was a congenial teammate of superstar Stephen Curry with the Warriors until his injury. Together, they reached the Finals five straight times between 2015 and 2019, winning three championships in the process.
