On Thursday and Friday, most of the riders will get to know the new Cremona circuit in Italy – the number 1 teams from BMW and Kawasaki will not be there
The Superbike World Championship is visiting a new track this year with the Cremona Circuit. The race weekend will take place from September 20 to 22. The circuit is located in Lombardy, about an hour’s drive north of Parma. It was opened in the summer of 2011
Some areas of the track have been modified to bring it up to World Championship standard. Turns 11, 12 and 13 in the final sector in particular were resurfaced. The length of the track was extended to 3.780 kilometers.
The grandstands have been extended and can now accommodate up to 20,000 spectators. “The track has changed,” said Michael Ruben Rinaldi to WorldSBK.com. “I was there eight years ago and they have made improvements.”
“It’s not such a fast track, so it will be important to have a good test here because everyone has to adjust their base set-up.” In addition to Rinaldi, other riders with production bikes have already completed private trackdays in Cremona.
These included Nicolo Bulega and Dominique Aegerter, for example. Last week, the first joint test of the new Women’s World Championship took place in Cremona. All participants ride a Yamaha R7. Ana Carrasco set the best time.
Over the next two days, on May 23rd and 24th, some of the Superbike World Championship teams will get to know the new track for the first time. Motocorsa has booked the track and some racing teams have accepted the invitation, but not all of them.
Almost all Ducati teams will take part in this test. In addition to Rinaldi, Bulega, Alvaro Bautista, Andrea Iannone and Sam Lowes will be in action. The Barni team is not present. Danilo Petrucci is on the road to recovery after his serious motocross accident.
Yamaha will be present with both teams and the riders Andrea Locatelli, Jonathan Rea, Aegerter and Remy Gardner. Both Honda teams are also starting work with riders Iker Lecuona, Xavi Vierge, Tarran Mackenzie and Adam Norrodin.
The big absentees are the number 1 teams from Kawasaki and BMW. They will test in Cremona on June 19 and 20, when MV Agusta has booked the track.
But the next two days will see Puccetti-Kawasaki testing with Tito Rabat, as well as the Bonovo-BMW team with Scott Redding and Garrett Gerloff.
