Small milestone for Gladbach youngster Borges Sanches

The next step towards a comeback. Gladbach’s Yvandro Borges Sanches is back in team training with Borussia after his cruciate ligament rupture. What happens next for the offensive player.

It’s a special moment for professional athletes who are in the process of rebuilding their fitness after a serious injury: returning to the pitch. Passing, shooting, dribbling. Finally, proper exercises with the ball at your feet again. A small milestone on the road to a comeback. Incredibly important for the psyche. Now Yvandro Borges Sanches is also able to experience these special moments again every day.

The attacking midfielder has been back in team training since last week. He is still only partially integrated, as it is now called, because he cannot yet do all the exercises. But it’s a start. It’s an important step for Borges Sanches on his comeback. Finally, he’s making some progress.

At the beginning of April, the 20-year-old tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. At the time, he was on loan in the Netherlands, under contract to NEC Nijmegen, and the serious injury happened in the game against Fortuna Sittard (1:1). It was his eighth league appearance for the first division club. Immediately after the bad news, Borges Sanches went back to Gladbach for medical care. A sad farewell from Nijmegen.

The Borussians give the young striker all the time

Now, half a year later, the youngster sees light at the end of the tunnel. However, it will take some time before the nimble and dribbling Borges Sanches can swirl again. It is important to rebuild confidence in the stability of the damaged knee. It is also necessary to wait and see whether reactions occur when the load is increased. Of course, the Borussians are giving the young striker all the time he needs to get back into playing shape. This calendar year, the Luxembourg international (25 caps, three goals) will hardly be an alternative anymore.

A brave winger who seeks one-on-one situations and can cause surprise moments would certainly be a good addition to the offensive play of the Fohlenelf, especially on the left wing. But until that happens, Borussia and Borges Sanches will have to exercise a little more patience.
