Instead of offering himself to the national team for the World Cup, Robert Skov (25) has to cope with another setback.
Actually, he would have a home game now. At home in Copenhagen, where Robert Skov was his country’s top scorer two years ago, Denmark’s national team, which has already qualified for the World Cup, will face the Faroe Islands before heading to Scotland for the finale. It would have been Skov’s first appearances for his country since the European Championship, which the left-footer witnessed first-hand but without playing.
The Dane, who was brought from FC Copenhagen for ten million euros, had finally fought his way back into Hoffenheim’s starting eleven and shone with two assists against Hertha BSC, but the next setback promptly followed in Bochum. After an hour, Skov grabbed the back of his right thigh and had to be substituted.
“This injury comes at a very inopportune time for me,” Skov lamented, “with regard to the Bundesliga, as well as the national team. “Once again, the now 25-year-old professional will lose a lot of time and will have to accept the next setback in his development, in which he has been torn between the more offensive role as a winger and the more defensive task on the left.
This is exactly the task I am now tackling with all my ambition.
It is now clear that it is not just a minor muscular injury, but a serious one. In all likelihood, a ligament is also likely to have been damaged. In any case, TSG estimates that their number 29 will be out for several months. And so this unsatisfactory year for Skov ends as it began. Already in January, the powerful shot athlete – just back in form after overcoming a Corona illness – had injured himself and only really got going again in the final phase of the pre-season.
Now it’s back to square one. “Nevertheless, it’s part of a professional’s life to take on these challenges and do everything to get back as quickly as possible,” Skov explains.“That’s exactly the task I’m now tackling with all my ambition. “To then hope for a happier 2022 World Cup year.
