Six months after returning: Chelsea lend Joao Felix to Milan

Six months after his transfer to Chelsea, Joao Felix is leaving London again, at least temporarily. The Portuguese is joining AC Milan on loan until the end of the season.

“I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea,” Joao Felix had said last summer after returning to the Blues. However, his second stint in London – he spent six months on loan at CFC during the second half of the 2022/23 season – is also coming to an end after just over six months, at least for the time being.

The 25-year-old, for whom Atletico Madrid received a transfer fee of 53 million euros just this summer, is moving to AC Milan on loan until the end of the season. He will wear the number 79 shirt there in the future.

According to media reports, the Rossoneri were unable to secure a purchase option. Milan is transferring €5.5 million to the English capital for the loan and is also covering the full salary of the attacker, who is still under contract to Chelsea until 2031.

One of many Milan transfers on deadline day

The Portuguese is to gain playing practice in the Serie A, which coach Enzo Maresca could not guarantee him in the first half of the season. Although he played in twelve league games, he only once played the full distance (one goal). In the Conference League, things went better for him: he scored four goals in five games in this competition.

He could wreak havoc in the forward line with Santiago Gimenez, among others, at the Italian league club, which is currently in eighth place. The Mexican, who is taking over from Alvaro Morata on loan at Galatasaray, was also presented by Milan on deadline day. Warren Bondo (coming from Monza) and Riccardo Sottil (coming on loan from Fiorentina) were also signed at the last minute for midfield.
