Sinner cancels start in Rotterdam

Melbourne champion Jannik Sinner is not yet recovered after the tough Australian Open.

The old and new Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner has canceled his start at the ATP tournament in Rotterdam. This was announced by the organizers of the indoor competition starting on Saturday. Sinner, who was beaten by Alexander Zverev in the Melbourne final on Sunday, has not yet recovered sufficiently.

“The Australian Open was long and difficult for Jannik. It’s a huge disappointment for him and for us that he can’t play in Rotterdam,” said tournament director Richard Krajicek, the 1996 Wimbledon champion.

In the absence of last year’s winner Sinner, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is now the top-seeded player. Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur and Andrey Rublev, all from the world’s top 10, are also competing.
