Tennis player Laura Siegemund has reached the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Nanchang, China.
The 35-year-old from Metzingen won clearly against the Norwegian Ulrikke Eikeri with 6:1, 6:3 and will now meet Katerina Siniakova from the Czech Republic at the hard court event. Siegemund converted her fifth match point against the world number 654 after 1:25 hours.
The first set lasted only 30 minutes. Siegemund quickly took a 4:0 lead and left her opponent little chance after that. In the second set, Eikeri took a service game from the German and led 2:1, but Siegemund countered immediately and then got the decisive break with 4:2. Eikeri fought off several match points and even had the chance to break again, but Siegemund kept her nerve.
