Laura Siegemund (Metzingen) has become the fourth German player to reach the main draw of the US Open (until 10 September), which starts on Monday.
The 35-year-old won 1-6, 6-0, 6-3 against France’s Oceane Dodin in the third qualifying round on Friday (local time) despite a botched first set to secure her place in the 128-strong field.
Eva Lys also has the chance to participate in the first round on Saturday. The Hamburg player has to defeat the US-American McCartney Kessler in the evening German time. In addition to Siegemund, Tatjana Maria (Bal Saulgau), Anna-Lena Friedsam (Neuwied) and Tamara Korpatsch (Hamburg) were already qualified for the last Grand Slam tournament of the year in New York thanks to their world ranking position.
