Shortly after the final whistle against Bologna: AS Roma parts ways with Juric

Ivan Juric is no longer the coach of AS Roma. The Italian capital club made the announcement shortly after the defeat against Bologna.

“We would like to thank Ivan Juric for his hard work in recent weeks. He has mastered a difficult environment with the utmost professionalism and we are grateful to him for that. We wish him all the best for the future,” read a statement from Roma, which was published just a few minutes after the final whistle against Bologna.

On Sunday afternoon, AS lost 3-2 at home, the fifth defeat of the season and the fourth in Serie A under Juric.

The Croatian took over from Daniele De Rossi in mid-September, who had only collected three points after four league games and was subsequently dismissed. The club icon had only extended his contract until 2027 last June.

However, Juric was unable to turn things around. After 12 matchdays, the Giallorossi are only twelfth with 13 points. Things don’t look much better in the Europa League either, with four points from five games putting them in 20th place.

“The search for a new head of the technical area has already begun and will be announced in the next few days,” Roma further announced.

New chance for Hummels?

This should also offer a new chance for Mats Hummels. The 2014 world champion joined Roma at the beginning of September, shortly before the coaching change. Under Juric, he made his only appearance as a substitute in the 5-1 defeat in Florence on October 27, in which he scored an own goal. Since then, the 35-year-old has been in the squad four times, but has not made any further appearances.
