“Shameless”: Netflix faces criticism

Netflix is reacting to the massive streaming problems during the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, thereby attracting further trouble. Internally, the creators are said to believe that they have solved the challenges ‘brilliantly’.

Streaming giant Netflix has responded to the massive technical problems during the boxing spectacle between boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTube phenomenon Jake Paul with a statement – and has attracted new criticism.

“60 million households around the world tuned in live to watch Paul vs. Tyson!” the company wrote on X: ‘The mega boxing event dominated social media, broke all records and even put our buffering systems on the ropes.’

The spectacular numbers are impressive – but many were annoyed that the PR statement did not include an apology for the numerous reported loading and quality issues. The post drew many angry and mocking responses. In addition to the astounding numbers, there was also negative media coverage, with the “Welt” calling the statement “shameless.”

“Brilliant” is the reaction: Netflix is said to have praised employees internally

While Netflix is holding back on public statements, reporter Mark Gurman from the US business media outlet Bloomberg reports on an internal email in which “Chief Technology Officer” Elizabeth Stone would have addressed employees.

“This unprecedented volume has resulted in many technical challenges,” Bloomberg quotes from the letter. However, the team responsible has ‘brilliantly addressed this by prioritizing the stability of the stream for the majority of viewers’.

The email continues: ”I’m sure many of you have read the talk in the press and on social media about the quality issues. We don’t want to dismiss the fact that it was a bad experience for some subscribers and we know there is room for improvement, but we still see this event as a huge success.”

Paul won the fight in Dallas by a clear margin on points, but 58-year-old Tyson still brought up the idea of further nostalgia fights afterwards.
