Schnitzelalm Racing: DTM entry postponed for “health reasons”

Why the Schnitzelalm team is not entering the DTM in 2024 as planned, how the course is being reset and which races are planned for next season

A few months ago, the Schnitzelalm team announced that it would compete in the DTM in 2024 with two cars – the brand was not named. A plan that Thomas Angerer’s squad has now postponed by a year. The reason is said to be health problems of the team principal and a restructuring

“The restructuring had been planned by us for some time, but for health reasons it is now necessary to bring it forward,” explained team boss Angerer in a press release. “Due to these many changes that have become necessary at short notice, we have also decided to postpone our planned DTM project by one year.”

In 2024, the team intends to compete with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 under the SR Motorsport application license in the ADAC GT Masters and the Nürburgring 24 Hours as well as in other races on the Nordschleife.

Restructuring must be brought forward

But what is behind the restructuring of the team? “The restructuring had been planned by us for some time, but for health reasons it is now necessary to bring it forward,” explains Angerer.

“For me personally, the next few months will be about concentrating more on my recovery so that I can get back up to speed quickly,” he says, without giving any further details.

This is how the Schnitzelalm team is being restructured

What does the new structure look like? Experienced team manager Günter Aberer, who has been with the team since 2021 when they were also flirting with the DTM and negotiating with Timo Scheider, will be in charge of the GT3 commitments in 2024. DTM driver Marcel Marchewicz and fellow driver Tim Neuser will be responsible for coaching young talent, while Johannes Heuschmid will take over responsibility for the GT4 events with the Porsche Cayman.

Team boss Angerer “will still be fully involved in the background and will be on hand with help and advice, but it is important that the work is spread over several shoulders in the near future,” he explains the decision.

Despite the new applicant license SR Motorsport, the name Schnitzelalm Racing will be retained: From now on, it will form “the second supporting pillar of the team, focusing on the training of new, young talent as well as gentleman drivers,” the press release states. The plan is to continue his involvement in the GTC Race Series with the Young Driver Academy
