Marvin Mehlem and Fabian Schnellhardt have extended their contracts at SV Darmstadt 98. Both lauded professionals have struggled with injuries this season and are looking to fully re-establish themselves in the squad.
According to a report on the Darmstadt club website, Mehlem has committed himself to the Lilies until the summer of 2025, while Schnellhardt extended his contract, which originally ran until next summer, by a further two years (2024). The 27-year-old has played for Darmstadt since 2019, making ten competitive appearances this season before suffering a torn muscle bundle in October.
Mehlem had joined SV in 2017. After missing the first twelve games of the season due to injury, he has made six appearances in the past seven games.
Schnellhardt outstanding, Mehlem’s work convincing
Lilien coach Thorsten Lieberknecht was delighted with both extensions: “Until the muscle bundle tear, ‘Schnelle’ played an outstanding season and proved how much he can help a team. The fact that he already returned to team training before the winter break underlines his diligence and dedication. I am very pleased that we can continue to count on him.” Mehlem has shown in the last six months that he is a very hard worker: “Marvin is an enrichment for the squad, both athletically and personally. That’s why we’re happy to be able to plan with him beyond the coming summer. “
SV Darmstadt 98 are currently second in the 2nd division with 35 points, one point behind leaders St. Pauli, and a full five points clear of the relegation places (Hamburger SV).
