Schiele: “Meppen is the team of the hour”

Before the chasing duel between Eintracht Braunschweig and SV Meppen, Löwen coach Michael Schiele spoke about the upcoming opponent and the current situation in the 3. Liga. For both teams, second place is within reach.

After the win against Würzburg on Tuesday, Eintracht coach Michael Schiele didn’t have much time to prepare with his team for the next opponent, on Saturday SV Meppen is already waiting. For Schiele, Meppen are “the team of the moment”, the SVM have won their last five games in a row and are one point ahead of Braunschweig in third place in the table.

“It will be a big homework assignment “, said the Eintracht coach at the pre-match press conference. “But we are happy to take it on. We want to pick up where we left off in Würzburg and score points.” Meppen have “grown into a top team” and are variable: “Sometimes they run high, sometimes they stand deeper and involve you in many duels. They can switch brutally well through the outsides, but have a developing player up front in Tankulic,” said Schiele.

Anything is possible from second to seventh place

The 43-year-old also spoke about the current situation in the league: “Anyone can beat anyone here, winning five games in a row is a huge run. Everything is very close together. It’s the same for us, if you don’t score in two games, you’re right back in seventh or eighth place. That’s when you need consistency.”

With a win, Eintracht could move up to second place, but at the same time, a defeat and wins by the chasing team could see them drop to seventh. This is not the only reason why it is a groundbreaking duel for Braunschweig.
