SpVgg Greuther Fürth still have no chance in the Bundesliga – and how: Bayer Leverkusen scored many easy goals at home – in the second half Schick increased the score to 7:1 with a four-goal haul.
Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane saw no reason to make any changes after the convincing 3-1 away win in Leipzig and sent the same eleven onto the pitch.
Fürth coach Stefan Leitl reacted to the clear 3:6 home defeat against Hoffenheim and replaced three defensive players: Barry (starting debut), Griesbeck and Willems replaced Asta, Sarpei and Meyerhöfer (all on the bench). Nielsen, too, was initially on the bench with an injury, but Dudziak was allowed to start again.
Fürth not ready for the Bundesliga at the back – Adli and Tapsoba score early
The many changes in the defence of the defensively weakest Bundesliga team (39 goals conceded before kick-off) did not necessarily provide stability for the once again offensively oriented Kleeblatt. The visitors started quite well, but both the 1:0 by Adli (12.) and the 2:0 by Tapsoba (17.) the scorers were allowed to aim at the goal completely alone.
As against Hoffenheim, however, Fürth did not allow themselves to be distracted by setbacks and remained on the offensive, Bauer even promptly scoring the equaliser in the meantime (13th), which, however, had previously been taken back due to an offside position.
Last team to sniff only briefly – Hincapie completes Bayer counter-attack
With the comfortable lead behind them, the Werkself only did what was necessary and looked unfocused at times. Palacios, for example, was lucky that Abiama did not punish his bad pass in the build-up (31.). A little later, however, Fürth managed to score the – at this point deserved – equaliser through Dudziak (33rd), who started defensively in a 4-4-2 and otherwise played in midfield.
Fürth had a brief sniff and even had the equaliser through Hrgota after a great move (44th), but in return the Werkself counter-attacked the cloverleaf ice-cold and Hincapie restored the old distance before the break (45th).
The Werkself started the second half with the same players but a completely different attitude. After only a few seconds Funk had to save from Adli (46th), but after Barry lost the ball and Schick shot, the keeper of the cloverleaf was powerless (49th).
Schick, always Schick – Fürth falls apart completely
This was the prelude to a strong, a sensational half of the Czech. Fürth had nothing more to counter and watched almost powerless as Schick easily scored his second, third and fourth goals (69th, 74th, 76th) after great preparatory work to increase the score to 7:1. It was the first four-goal haul by a Leverkusen player in the Bundesliga and the second fastest in league history.
It was already clear that the cloverleaf would get the next big pack, it was only a matter of the amount of the twelfth defeat in a row. Demirbay hit the post once more (81st), but then the Werkself left it at that, more than deservedly, resounding victory, the cloverleaf’s clearest defeat in the Bundesliga. At the same time, it was also Bayer’s highest home win – in 2004 they beat Kaiserslautern 6:0.
Leverkusen continue their Europa League campaign with an away game in Budapest on Thursday (9pm) before an away game in Frankfurt on Sunday (5.30pm). Fürth host Europa Conference League participants Union Berlin two hours earlier.
