Schick now fifth – Haaland in the top ten

In the Bundesliga’s English week, several goal scorers made up ground in the Golden Shoe rankings. Among others, Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick and Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. The best Bundesliga scorer, however, is someone else.

Furthermore, the hunt for the Golden Shoe at the end of the calendar year traditionally features players from leagues that have already completed their season. The two top-ranked goal scorers just before Christmas come from Norway. Ohi Omoijuanfo (Molde) has 27 goals and 40.5 points to his name. Thomas Lehne Olsen (Lilleström) has 26 goals and 39 points. However, neither of them can add to their tally, so it is only a matter of time before they are replaced at the top.

The first hunter is Robert Lewandowski. The defending champion increased his tally to 19 goals against Wolfsburg and Stuttgart and now has 38 points. The Pole is thus once again the Bundesliga’s top scorer. However, Lewandowski has company from the German top flight in the top ten: Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick scored twice in the 2:2 against Hoffenheim and is in a shared fifth place with 16 goals and 32 points. Dortmund’s Erling Haaland scored twice in a 3-0 win over Fürth and is in a shared tenth place with 13 goals and 26 points.

Modeste knocks on the door

Not far away from the top ten is Anthony Modeste. The Cologne man struck three times last week and his eleven goals take him to 22 points, which is 17th. Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich) and Taiwo Awoniyi (1. FC Union Berlin) also made it onto the table with nine goals and 18 points.

The names of long-time serial winners Lionel Messi (PSG) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), on the other hand, are still missing. Of the big names, Liverpool’s goal scorer Mohamed Salah is still best in seventh place (15 goals; 30 points). Lazio’s Ciro Immobile – winner of the 2020 Golden Boot, and Reals goal guarantee Karim Benzema are tied for tenth with 13 goals and 26 points.
