Salah to Return to Action on His 26th Birthday

As far as birthdays go, is there any better way to celebrate than to play for your country in the World Cup? Perhaps to win and score on your birthday is the only thing that could top that. Mo Salah has been described as ‘almost 100 per cent fit’ by his national team coach and looks like he will have the chance to mark his birthday with a goal. After a season where he has broken the Premier League scoring records and helped Liverpool to unexpectedly reach the Champions League final, lining up against Uruguay today is the icing on the cake.

More goals to follow after Russia beat Saudi Arabia 5-0

So today Mo Salah could be in the starting XI for Egypt as they play Luis Suarez’s Uruguay. The South Americans are favourites to win the match and the overall group but Mo and co. could be about to cause an upset. The first game of the tournament took place yesterday as Russia swept a poor Saudi Arabia team aside to win 5-0. That has set the bar for this World Cup to be filled with goals and you would expect the likes of Mo Salah, Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani to be getting a handful of goals each at this tournament.

Football action is heating up

The football action really starts to heat up today with three games to enjoy. After Egypt vs. Uruguay, Morocco plays Iran, followed by the enthralling prospect of old rivals Portugal vs. Spain. People were complaining that the opening World Cup fixture was not very exciting but Russia started the World Cup party off in style. Now, these three games should really get the party into full swing. Salah will be determined to make up for his Champions League heartbreak and you certainly wouldn’t write his chances off after the sensational season that he has had.

Will Suarez and Cavani spoil the party?

Unfortunately for Salah, the firepower of Suarez and Cavani might be too much for Egypt in their first World Cup Finals appearance since 1990. Between them, they have prolific scoring records for both club and country. If anyone can gate-crash Salah’s party, these two can.
