When a new player joins a club, it’s important they settle in quickly and make new friends with their teammates. Individuals are never going to get along with everyone else at a football club but good friendships are formed and many of them are among players who play closely together.
Salah’s Surprise Mate
However, a close bond has been forged between two players at Liverpool and is asked, you would struggle to guess who they are. When Mohamed Salah arrived at Anfield, the expectation on his shoulders was minimal but having struck up a great relationship with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in the attack, the Egyptian has flourished.
Therefore, if you were to ask who Salah was close to in the Liverpool dressing room, you would be forgiven for thinking it was Firmino or Mane. However, in a recent interview on the official Liverpool Football Club YouTube channel, Salah sat down with none other than Dejan Lovren to discuss their blossoming bromance at Anfield.
Social Media Fun
Their friendship first came to light outside the dressing room when they started to interact on social media, often poking fun at each other. At the beginning of the interview, it was clear how relaxed the pair have become around each other and Salah joked he has made Lovren a better player before the defender hit back by saying Salah had ruined his confidence.
Salah asked Lovren if he feels they became friends by mistake and the Croatian international spoke about how he used to warm up with Emre Can, kicking the ball between themselves but when Can was injured, he was left with no options other than Salah.
The conversation drifted to the time the pair dined together in Marbella and Salah offered to pay the bill but, in the end, it was Lovren who had to stump up the cash for the meal.
Coffee Confusion
Perhaps the best moment of the interview is when they discuss buying a coffee at a drive-through. Lovren was ahead of Salah in the line and ordered a coffee for himself but not his teammate.
Salah drove on through thinking Lovren had ordered his coffee for him only for lady working there to call out and stop him as he went through to ask what he wanted. In the end, many of the stories they share are meaningless but together they show the close bond the two players have grown during Salah’s short time at Liverpool.
There is a great chemistry between the pair and they would love nothing more than to celebrate together in Kiev on Saturday night having won the Champions League against Real Madrid. The question is, who is going to pay the bill for the meal following the match?
