Ferrari “happy” with progress made after first double podium since Miami, but Carlos Sainz says something is still missing
While Ferrari have now waited six races for a win in Formula One, the trend at the Singapore Grand Prix was at least moving in the right direction again with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz taking their first double podium since the Miami Grand Prix in May.
“It’s good news that the race went well on both sides,” Sainz says. “There are still things that I am convinced we need to continue to improve and do better. But the team is making big steps forward and we are learning from every situation.”
Team boss Mattia Binotto is also pleased with the performance shown, although he might have hoped for a little more as they failed to win from pole position for the seventh time this season with Leclerc.
Sainz: Must take opportunities when they are there!
“I think second and third overall are still a good result. In terms of the constructors’ championship, it was a good weekend,” Binotto said. “Overall, the car worked well in the wet and in the dry, in qualifying and also in the race.”
“So we can be satisfied because it was certainly more difficult at Spa and Zandvoort. So I think we addressed some of the problems we had,” the Ferrari team boss analysed.
With both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships now only mathematically possible for Ferrari, but realistically completely out of reach, they will be using the final races of the season to improve their on-track procedures.
“These last five races will be great preparation for us to be better at the front next year,” said Sainz. “Because it’s clear that the car is there, the drivers are there, we just need to keep improving the execution and whenever we have the opportunity, take it. “
