Saints turn the game around in three minutes: Tottenham lose to Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur have failed to move past rivals Arsenal FC. The north Londoners lost 3-2 at home to Southampton, who put up a decent fight.

Before kick-off, it was clear that if Spurs beat Southampton, they would move past Arsenal into sixth place in the table. But the hosts had problems from the start with Ralph Hasenhüttl’s well-organised team. Nevertheless, Tottenham made it 1-0 after 18 minutes, but Bednarek, a Saints player, was involved, hitting his own net. Reguilon had failed to score before that(16.).

Saints first with a flurry of chances and own goal

But the deficit did not shock the visitors at all. Shortly afterwards, Broja scored a deserved equaliser (23rd) and even had the chance to score another goal (36th). Like some of his teammates, however, he did not get the ball over the line – Perraud also failed to hit the crossbar (43.). Tottenham, on the other hand, had no big chances for a long time, Kane finally came close to scoring in the 54th minute, but headed just wide.

Son scores – Ward-Prowse’s cross into fortune

Son did better on 16 minutes, although Tottenham’s 2-1 after Emerson Royal’s effort was disputed against Borja (70th). In the closing stages, the sloppy Spurs flanker Ward-Prowse twice allowed the ball to go unchallenged into the sixteen – and Elyounoussi (79th) and Adams (82nd) nodded in without trouble within three minutes.

For a short while it even looked as if Tottenham would keep a point. Joker Bergwijn put the ball over the line in the third minute of injury time to make it 3-3. However, the Dutchman was offside beforehand. So Spurs remain seventh. Hasenhüttl’s team scored a coup, as they did in the league match against ManCity.
