Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka has reached the semi-finals of the US Open for the fourth time in a row. As in last year’s final, it’s against an American. Sabalenka makes the crowd an offer
Last year’s finalist Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus is back on course for the final at the US Open. In impressive style, the world number two won her quarter-final against the in-form Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen from China 6:1, 6:2 in just 73 minutes. Sabalenka will now face the American Emma Navarro, who beat Paula Badosa from Spain in two sets, in the semi-finals.
“The drinks are on me and you’ll support me in the next match,” joked Sabalenka, referring to the upcoming duel with a US player. “It’s going to be a great match, I’m really looking forward to it.” It will be her fourth semi-final at the US Open in a row.
The two-time Australian Open winner lost the final against American crowd favorite Coco Gauff at last year’s Grand Slam tournament in New York. There cannot be another duel in the final. The defending champion has already been eliminated: Due to a defeat against Navarro.
