CM Punk announces on RAW after Bash in Berlin that he’s going after Gunther’s World Title – but his current arch-rival isn’t backing down.
At the weekend in Berlin, he was still celebrating the supposed end of his great rivalry and announced that he would be moving on to even greater things – but things are obviously different for now.
On the first edition of the TV show Monday Night RAW after the historic German Bash in Berlin, WWE top star CM Punk set his sights on World Champion Gunther. But his arch-rival Drew McIntyre is not giving in – and has taken the hate feud even further with a vicious attack on the “Straight Edge Superstar”.
Apparently one last showdown is on the cards before the hotly anticipated title clash between Gunther and Punk
WWE RAW: Drew McIntyre attacks CM Punk again
Punk made it clear that this is the mid-term plan when he addressed the fans on RAW in Denver, stating that after his victorious strap match against McIntyre, he will now go on the hunt for Gunther and the main title on Monday’s show.
However, McIntyre, who had actually suffered a devastating defeat in Berlin, still had something against it, as it turned out: disguised in a hoodie, he brutally attacked Punk from behind. The symbolic climax of the attack: McIntyre once again took Punk’s friendship bracelet from his wife AJ Lee, which McIntyre had just won back – and tore it up.
It’s now looking like another third match between Punk and McIntyre at this year’s big return to the WWE calendar, Bad Blood on October 5. The most likely scenario is a Hell in a Cell match – Bad Blood was the 1997 event where The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels established the myth of fights in the giant cage.
Sami Zayn challenges Gunther
WWE’s sole creative director “Triple H” Paul Levesque has abolished Hell in a Cell as a major event name since this year – according to his own statements, he no longer wanted to treat the match type as a calendrical compulsory exercise, but once again as the logical climax of major feuds. The one between Punk and McIntyre comes to mind.
A scenario for Bad Blood is also clearly emerging for Gunther: He was challenged on RAW after defeating Randy Orton in Berlin by Sami Zayn, the man who ended his reign as Intercontinental Champion at WrestleMania in the spring.
For the title duel between Gunther and Punk, the next major event Crown Jewel on November 2 or the traditional “Big 4 Event”: the Survivor Series on November 30 in Vancouver
