Seven days of football have been played at the Russia World Cup 2018 and it hasn’t disappointed unless you support a team who has lost its first two games and are heading home soon. There have been dramatic late winners, controversial decisions and shock defeats – it certainly has not started slowly! Here is a round-up of the results so far:

The first game between Russia and Saudi Arabia was anticipated to be a bit of a dull affair but the hosts had other ideas. They swept Saudi Arabia away, scoring five goals in what turned out to be a very exciting opening game.
Day 2
The next game saw Egypt take on Uruguay in a game where Mo Salah had to sit on the bench and watch as Uruguay scored a very late goal, after a great performance from Egypt. Iran then managed a 1-0 win against Morocco before the eagerly anticipated Portugal vs. Spain in the evening, A highly entertaining 3-3 draw reminded viewers just how good the World Cup can be with end-to-end action throughout.
Day 3
Next up, France beat Australia 2-1 in a game that was probably closer than France would have liked. Iceland managed to hold Argentina to a draw, with the goalkeeper saving a Messi penalty. Denmark got a narrow win against Peru after Cueva missed a penalty and the day of football was rounded off with a 2-0 win against Croatia over Nigeria.
Day 4
Serbia started off their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica before the biggest shock of the tournament so far as Mexico beat Germany 1-0. The German team looked way off the pace as Mexico’s Lozano scored the deciding goal. Then we had another shock result as Switzerland held mighty Brazil to a 1-1 draw, in a game where Neymar got kicked all over the pitch.
Day 5

Day 6
Another surprising result came along as Japan beat Colombia 2-1, with a sending off after just three minutes. Senegal played well and deserved their 2-1 win over Poland to become the first African nation to win at this World Cup. Hosts Russia followed up their 5-0 win with another resounding 3-1 victory over Egypt in a game where Mo Salah looked out of sorts.
Day 7
To cap off a week of football that has seen goals in every game, the three games yesterday finished 1-0.
