Rosberg reveals: Hamilton gives my daughters Barbies for Christmas

Lewis Hamilton also shows that he has a heart for children when it comes to his former rival Nico Rosberg: he sends gifts to Rosberg’s daughters every Christmas.

Rivalry is all well and good, but when it comes to children, enmity stops. This is a good way to describe the relationship between the two former Mercedes team-mates Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.

At the Silver Arrows, good friends became bitter rivals who didn’t give each other the dirt under their fingernails. Meanwhile, the relationship has relaxed again since Rosberg ended his career eight years ago.

The two may still not be best friends, but when it comes to children, Hamilton often shows a big heart – and that is also the case with Rosberg’s daughters Alaia and Naila. And they are big fans of the seven-time world champion.

“That’s even more of a weakness, it’s a big problem,” says Rosberg with a laugh on the NDR Talk Show.

Because as it turns out, the 40-year-old gives his former arch-rival’s children Barbies for Christmas every year. That goes down well with Rosberg: ‘It’s really great of him,’ says the 39-year-old.

“We had such enmity, and now every Christmas both children have a huge package of gifts from him on their doorstep. That’s a nice approach,” he praises.

“But he’s not allowed in,” jokes host Steven Gätjen, referring to the once-tense relationship. Rosberg’s casual response: ‘No, he has to stay outside the door,’ he laughs. ”He’s welcome to leave the presents outside the door. Thank you, and that’s it.”

However, Rosberg cannot return the favor because Hamilton himself does not yet have children. The Ferrari driver, on the other hand, enjoys his role as an uncle to his nephews and nieces. “I love being an uncle,” he once revealed on Instagram, adding, “Family is everything.”

Rosberg and Hamilton had met and become friends in karting as children, although Hamilton had denied the latter in an interview a few years ago. Between 2013 and 2016, they drove together for Mercedes in Formula One for four years.

During this time, Hamilton became world champion twice, and Rosberg retired after his only world title in 2016.
