It looks as though Rooney’s fairytale move back to boyhood club Everton is drawing to a close after just one season. Everton fans had been in raptures when they heard he was re-joining the club but the fairytale ending was not to be.
Everton fans were dreaming of glory days
The blue side of Merseyside thought that 2017-18 was going to be their year. Big player signings like Rooney, Keane, Walcott, £30m goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and £40m Sigurdsson gave fans a season to be excited about. In the end, they spent the larger part of the season in the bottom half of the table, with relegation survival expert, Sam Allardyce being drafted in to steer them out of trouble.
Rooney off to the US
So Rooney has decided it is time to move to the US, with Washington‘s DC United being his next club. Rooney is no stranger to hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons and perhaps part of his decision is to lead a life with less media attention. His drink-driving incident involving a night out with a young lady (whilst his wife Coleen was on holiday) made big news and he will no doubt be keen to leave that behind.

Whether Coleen will be happy to move the kids out of school to move to the US remains to be seen. Wayne and Coleen are close to having a great 5-aside team of kids with Cass, Kai, Klay and Kit the names of their four boys.
Whilst Rooney’s second stint at Everton was not as outstanding as he had hoped, he leaves the Premier League as Manchester United’s and England’s all-time leading goalscorer. It will be a very long time before there is any danger of those records being overtaken, so he is certainly leaving his legacy behind.
Coleen appears to have forgiven Rooney for his past misdemeanours but will life in the capital of the US be happier for the Rooneys?
