Not Moist Esport, not FURIA – Team BDS is the answer to the question of who will be Rocket League World Champion-2022. 600,000 US dollars will go to the Swiss organisation.
Around 200,000 viewers watched the final round of the Rocket League World Championship 2022 on Twitch, and there were probably several thousand on site at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, USA. When the final play-offs started, all but one of the favourites were there – the wildcard qualifiers went away empty-handed.
It was somewhat surprising that Team Falcons had to pull out shortly after the group stage. However, they were part of the hammer group with FaZe Clan, FURIA and G2 Esports. In the lower bracket, the finalists of the Spring Split were eliminated by Karmine Corp

They then tried first in the play-offs against Team BDS, but came up short in the deciding seventh game. Arriving in the semi-finals, FURIA seemed to be out of their league. Already 2:0 behind, the Swiss organisation broke through in the third game. They started the race to catch up with a full 6:0 and won the following four games.
This visibly gave them tailwind, because in the final they hardly gave G2 Esports a chance. Having won the first three games outright, their opponents came back, but their hopes were nipped in the bud in the fourth game. BDS not only won the trophy, but also 600,000 US dollars.
BDS players Evan ‘M0nkey M00n’ Rogez and Enzo ‘Seikoo’ Grondein received a special honour. While Rogez was named Defensive MVP, the organisers named Grondein the Most Valuable Player of the entire World Cup.
“one of the best and most difficult challenges “
For the organisation, it’s also a vindication because: Grondein joined the team only four months ago, as did coach Théo ‘Mew’ Ponzoni. That this new composition succeeds and ‘Seikoo’ finds his way in his first year in the competition in such a way – for Ponzoni “definitely one of the best and most difficult challenges in my life.” Making this “new start where there are no rules because the players don’t know how to play together yet” and now rewarding himself like this makes him “really happy”.
The fact that BDS kept their opponents at bay in the final was mainly due to said upheaval, the coach explains: “After London we decided to play one style and master it, and ours is exactly the opposite of G2’s because we put a lot of emphasis on structure and take our time, and I think G2 is a team that needs explosiveness in their game.”
Accordingly, he said, “G2 can be seen winning against FaZe, a team that is explosive and can jump from anywhere, but I think they have problems dealing with you if you take too much time to respond to the aggressiveness,” ‘Mew’ concluded. For Team BDS, the world title is their first trophy since December 2021, when they won the Fall Split Major.
