At the Rocket League World Championship, G2 Esports made it into the play-offs via a roundabout route. There they will now meet their opponents from the 2022 final.
The title was within reach for G2 Esports last year. The Berlin-based organisation made it all the way to the final, where they eventually lost 4-1 to Team BDS and thus missed out on the triumph. Less than 365 days later, they will meet again at the World Championship of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) – but already in the quarter-finals.
First with problems, then with confidence
G2 Esports made it to their home World Cup via a diversion. Starting successfully in Group B, runners-up Gen.G Mobil1 lost clearly 1:4 after games. “They read G2 like a book,” said one of the commentators aptly. Defensively, Gen.G was usually one step ahead of its opponent. Nevertheless, G2 Esports showed mentality and tried to start a comeback – which, however, could not be completed successfully.
So the Berlin organisation slipped into the lower bracket, where Moist Esports was waiting, which in turn had eliminated FaZe Clan. However, G2 Esports was too big for them, and in the end the German team won clearly with 4:0 and entered the quarter-finals of the World Championship. Where revenge against Team BDS would now be possible. The Swiss have been in good form so far and qualified for the round of the last eight without defeat.
Kick-off for this match is at 16:00, followed by the semi-finals at 18:00, before the title is played out in the PSD BANK DOME at 19:00. In contrast to the previous rounds, single elimination will now apply – whoever loses will be eliminated. As before, the team that wins four games will advance. The possible semi-final opponents for G2 Esports are Team Liquid or Spacestation Gaming, who they already met during the wildcard phase.
