The European League qualifiers held a big surprise on Tuesday as the Rhein-Neckar Löwen failed in round two. Lemgo and Berlin, on the other hand, moved on.
The Rhein-Neckar Löwen surprisingly missed the group phase of the European League. The Bundesliga favourites lost their second leg in the 2nd qualifying round at Benfica Lisbon on Tuesday evening with 28:33 (13:18) after a disappointing performance.
The first leg in Heidelberg a week ago had ended 31:31. In front of 1000 spectators, national player Juri Knorr was the best scorer for the Lions with six goals. Due to a multitude of technical mistakes and a miserable use of chances, the Lions never had a chance to advance.
On the other hand, cup winners TBV Lemgo Lippe and Füchse Berlin are in the third round of the European League qualification. TBV won their home match against Valur Reykjavik with 27:21 (11:11), the club from the capital city won the second leg against KS Azoty-Pulawy with 33:29 (13:16) after their convincing 32:24 victory in the first leg.
