Zlatan Ibrahimovic (42) has a new job. The former world-class player is to advise the board of his former club AC Milan in future
Various media outlets had already reported on Sunday about Ibrahimovic’s imminent return; on Monday, the investment company “Red Bird Capital Partners”, which owns AC Milan, announced that the 42-year-old Swede will act as a partner of the company in future and in this role will advise the owners and management of the club.
According to the statement, he will “play an active role in the entire sporting and business side of the club and help to strengthen the club’s culture of success”. Ibrahimovic’s responsibilities will include player development, high-performance training, the promotion of the global brand and the commercial interests of AC Milan. The Swede will also “support special projects of strategic importance, including the club’s new stadium”. The club is currently planning the construction of a new arena in a suburb of Milan, which would replace the venerable San Siro and is due to be completed in 2028.
In addition, Ibrahimovic will also work for the “Red Bird” company itself and advise the owners on investment issues in the areas of sport, media and entertainment.
“My love for the Rossoneri will never die, and the opportunity to be a part of their future is something I can only wish for,” the former attacker is quoted as saying in the statement. “This is not a decision I’m taking lightly – it’s a decision that is very important and personal to me and my family. “
There had been rumors of a swift return to official level for several months. At the beginning of November, the “Gazzetta dello Sport” reported that Ibrahimovic had reached an agreement with “Red Bird” owner Gerry Cardinale about a collaboration, but at the time there was still talk of a position as marketing and communications manager.
This is Ibrahimovic’s first job after his active professional career. He declared the end of his illustrious career in the summer – after three and a half years in the service of Milan. He celebrated his fifth and final Scudetto with the Rossoneri in 2022. He had previously worn the Milan shirt from 2010 to 2012. In a total of 163 competitive matches for AC, he scored 93 goals.
