Return of two traditional clubs: AS Roma and SSC Napoli licensed again from FC 25

Two big Serie A clubs return in EA SPORTS FC 25. Following a terminated partnership with Konami, EA SPORTS has secured the licenses for AS Roma and SSC Napoli

It is above all these stories that make the career mode so interesting: Quickly breaking into the top flight with small clubs or leading traditional clubs back to the top – as long as they are licensed in the game. This was and is only partially the case with some Serie A teams.

However, with AS Roma and SSC Napoli, two big names from the Italian league are now celebrating their comeback in EA SPORTS FC 25, as both clubs announced in a press release and trailer. Although Roma and Napoli already had true-to-life professionals in the video game, their logos, kits and stadiums had been altered. Thanks to the partnership with EA SPORTS, the upcoming installment of the series will once again feature the real jerseys and the real logo. The women of AS Roma will also be licensed – because for the first time, women’s teams will also be playable in career mode in FC 25

Licensed stadiums possibly in the course of the cycle

The only thing fans will have to be patient about is the stadiums. With regard to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples, the influencer ‘Matheus Gamer’ wrote on X about “difficult negotiations with the stadium owners”. As the venue is owned by the city of Naples and is therefore a public venue, the licensing process is fraught with a number of hurdles. AS Roma’s Stadio Olimpico will also not be in the game for the time being. However, according to ‘Matheus Gamer’, EA SPORTS has made changes to the generic stadium allocated to both clubs in EA SPORTS FC 25

The reason for the absence of both licenses since FIFA 2023 was a recently ended partnership with Konami. Although EA SPORTS again has a partnership with Serie A, it is possible to secure the rights to individual clubs in Italy. In mid-2019, Konami bought the licenses for Juventus Turin – in FIFA 20, 21 and 22, the club was therefore called Piemonte Calcio – before the contract ended. With AS Roma and SSC Napoli, the license portfolio is filled again. Only Lazio Roma and Atalanta Bergamo are – as of now – not faithfully represented in FC 25
