Resignation as managing director: Susie Wolff leaves Formula E team Venturi

Venturi must look for a new string-puller ahead of the 2022/23 Formula E season – Susie Wolff resigns as managing director

Venturi will make common cause with Maserati in the 2022/23 Formula E season, but Susie Wolff will no longer be at the helm of the team. The former DTM driver and Williams Formula 1 test driver is stepping down as managing director, prompting the racing team to seek a new leader. The Scot had been part of the company since 2018.

In the beginning, Wolff worked as team principal for Venturi, but then promotion to managing director beckoned in 2021, while former Formula E driver Jerome D’Ambrosio took over her role. Actually, the now 39-year-old had signed a three-year contract to take Venturi to the top of the sport in the electric formula series.

With Wolff as managing director, Venturi enjoyed the most successful season in its Formula E history: In 2022, Edoardo Mortara finished third in the drivers’ championship and Lucas di Grassi fifth. The duo brought Venturi to second place in the team standings behind champions Mercedes. The success story with Wolff on board will end before the 2022/23 season, when the Gen3 cars will be introduced. In addition, Maserati will be sourcing Venturi’s powertrains as a customer.

On social media, Wolff announced her departure immediately after the finale of the 2021/22 Formula E season. She wrote: “Venturi’s most successful season is in the books and this also marks the end of my personal journey with the team and in Formula E. I am leaving the racing team proudly as it now stands on a solid foundation that we have built together. Now the team is writing a new chapter with Maserati.”

“When I joined Venturi in Formula E, I had the goal of building a team that not only succeeds on the track, but generally stands for a greater good: a racing family that celebrates diversity and masters inclusion. This adventure continues and I am proud of the development. Four years ago, I had no idea the challenges we would face as a team.”

During these times, he says, the whole team has grown closer and closer and the “belief in success as well as confidence” has moved mountains. After all, under Wolff’s leadership Venturi has managed to become a serious title contender, regularly competing for race wins. She thanks everyone in the team and Formula E for “four great seasons”.
