Daniel Ricciardo may be in a Renault seat next season but the new technical chief Marcin Budkowski has tried to dampen any hopes that this means they will be able to win a championship. The gap behind Ferrari and Mercedes seems to be getting bigger and it is almost like the other teams are fighting for third place this year and probably next.
Mercedes and Ferrari are too big to challenge
Budkowski said: “Obviously I hope it will be different, but we have to take things to step by step. We are 1.5 seconds off the top guys, and if I was sat here thinking we are going to recover that against people like Mercedes and Ferrari, these massive organizations, with super competent people.”
“We have grown over the last two years, but they have had structures with 900 people for many years. Stability has been a benefit to them, so it would be ludicrous for me to say we are going to beat them next year.”

Ricciardo moves to Renault after ten years at Red Bull
So Ricciardo fans should not get their hopes up too much for the 2019 season, although it will be very interesting to see how the changes of drivers will impact the results next year. With rookie drivers coming in and old pros taking a backseat, so to speak, 2019 will see a big shake-up in terms of drivers.
The F1 season started so well for the Australian driver
Daniel Ricciardo would have wanted to leave Red Bull on the back of a better season, he currently lies 6th in the Drivers Standings. It all looked so promising at the start of the Formula 1 season, as he picked up two wins from his first six races. He even admitted that after Monaco he had considered Red Bull would have a realistic chance of winning the title. Since Monaco, Ricciardo has failed to claim a podium place, leaving the early dream of glory in tatters.
