Bottom-of-the-table Heidelberg has made another addition and signed combo guard Justin Jaworski. The 24-year-old has signed with the university city until the end of the season
The relegation-threatened MLP Academics Heidelberg are once again gearing up for the battle to stay in the league: Justin Jaworski, a strong long-range shooter, has signed a contract until the end of the season. The 24-year-old joins from Italian first-division club Napoli Basket, with whom he recently won a surprising cup.
Jaworski played in Europe for the first time last season – for Spanish second-division club Gipuzkoa. There, the US-American averaged 19.4 points per game. Now he is trying his luck in the BBL.
Despite Heidelberg’s difficult sporting situation, the variable combo guard is optimistic about the future: “My wife and I are happy to be in a great city like Heidelberg and we are grateful that the organization is giving us this opportunity. I’m looking forward to helping the team finish the season strong. “
Despite 18th place, the safety net is still in sight
The Academics will need a strong finish to the season if they are to stay in the league. After the narrow victory in Braunschweig in the first game under new Head Coach Ingo Freyer, Heidelberg has lost all of its last five games by a wide margin. Despite their poor record of just three wins from 21 games, however, safety is still in sight: The gap to the first non-relegation place, which is currently occupied by promoted Tübingen, is currently two wins
