FC Ingolstadt have landed reinforcements for their fight against relegation: Hans Nunoo Sarpei is joining the Schanzers from SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
“With Hans Nunoo, we are getting a player who is very strong in running and tackling and who offers us new possibilities in an important position,” said Dietmar Beiersdorfer, managing director of sport and communications at FC Ingolstadt 04, about the signing of the 23-year-old.
Sarpei moved to VfB Stuttgart as a youngster in the summer of 2016, but was unable to establish himself in Swabia. Since January 2019, he wore the jersey of SpVgg Greuther Fürth, initially on loan, before he was permanently signed by the cloverleaf in the summer of 2019. In total, he made 64 appearances for Fürth.
“We are convinced that it is the right solution for both sides. We would like to thank Hansi for his commitment, he has always given everything for the cloverleaf and is part of our promotion team,” said Rachid Azzouzi, managing director of sport at SpVgg. Sarpei is already the second player whose departure from Fürth is made public one day before Christmas Eve: The loan of Nils Seufert to SV Sandhausen was already communicated earlier.
Player “who opposes all resistance with the highest level of commitment “
In Ingolstadt, those responsible see Sarpei as a player “who will face any opposition with the utmost commitment.” Beiersdorfer commented: “That’s exactly the attitude we need, especially in the next few months when we’re playing to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga.” Ingolstadt are in last place in the table with ten points after 18 match days, seven points off the relegation place and ten points off the safety zone.
“Of course I know that the mission to stay in the league will not be an easy one. What is crucial is to work together and to believe that we can definitely still make it. I want to make my contribution to this and am very happy to be part of the team,” said Sarpei. Both clubs agreed not to disclose the exact terms of the contract.
